The annual Willows Golf Tournament was presented during the Easter weekend by the Potchefstroom Country Club Committee.
The tournament kicked off with the popular Par 3 competition on Thursday afternoon. We also hosted our first Easter egg hunt which went down a treat for the kids and will definitely become an institution in the future.
Pieter van Greunen won the the Net and Gross divisions of the Par 3 competition. However, he did not participate in the Willows tournament this year and had to cede the Net Masters jacket to Anton van Rooyen (Honorary President of the Potchefstroom Country Club) and the Gross Masters jacket to Christy Raper of Royal Oak Country Club.
Together with our sponsors, Rubberroofs, SAB (Stella Artois), NTT Volkswagen Potchefstroom, Board Boy Klerksdorp, Chubby Chick, Suid-sentrum Blue Bottle, Ocean Basket Potchefstroom, Distell and Heineken, new friendships were made, amazing golf played, old competitors reunited and life long bonds formed!
Even the cold and wet weather did not put a damper on the incredible atmosphere that dominated the golf course during this tournament. Over the years the prestigious Willows tournament has become synonymous with top-quality golf and players travel from far and wide to participate – this year was no exception.
Although play was disrupted by rain on Sunday, the tournament ended on a high note on Monday with top performances by local members:
Hole in one (at number 17) – Ferdi Otte
Best dressed winners – Hein Papenfus and Wiehan Strydom
Overall tournament winners – Mighael de Beer and Andries Huisamen
Hamper winner – local caddy master Jerry Molefi.
The committee, management and staff of Potchefstroom Country Club feel privileged to be able to host a tournament of this caliber and will start planning even better things for next year soon!
